\...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.\  (Matthew 20:26-28 NIV)

On Martin Luther King Holiday, HOPE worldwide Los Angeles hosted the LA Day On HOPE.  Dr. King once said, \Everybody can be great, because everyone can serve.\ On Monday, January 15, 2007 nearly 4,000 participants, primarily from the Los Angeles Church of Christ, demonstrated the spirit of Christ by serving their communities all across southern California from Santa Ana to Santa Barbara and beyond.

Volunteers fed the homeless in downtown Los Angeles, supported senior citizens in Sylmar, painted and cleaned at the Salvation Army Shelter in the City of Bell,  hosted a Community Clean-up Day in Desert Hot Springs and served students in Sun Valley, Rialto, Santa Ana, El Monte and elsewhere.

With a great desire to give, disciples donated blood, hosted game carnivals, sponsored sports clinics, painted artistic murals and supplied books in order to assist in the educational development of children. Additionally, the Los Angeles Church of Christ received a Gold Level President\'s Volunteer Service Award for its sustained commitment to community service.

Lastly, the LA Day On HOPE\'s \Unity in the Community\ theme came alive as numerous organizations collaborated to serve the community.  Major partners included the Union Rescue Mission, Boys & Girls Club, Hemacare, Points of Light Foundation,  Salvation Army, Far East National Bank, Service For Peace, Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA, Kiwanis Club, Subway, Smart & Final, Costco, Chipotle, Starbucks, Trader Joes, Food 4 Less, Walmart, Home Depot, Rialto Fire and Police Departments, Children\'s Hospital of Orange County and the Santa Ana and Los Angeles Unified School Districts.
It was truly a great demonstration of \Unity in the Community.\

(Editor\'s Note:  We commend all of the extraordinary volunteers who spent many, many hours prior to the Day On Hope to prepare and coordination for all of these events.  We want to especially thank volunteer Rick Mark, Director of the LA Day On Hope, for his hundreds of hours of volunteer service.  Rick\'s service truly exemplifies the spirit of Christ)
