L.A. Church Gives $1.5 Million

\Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.  And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God\'s will.\  2 Corinthians 8:3-5

Members of the Los Angeles Church of Christ gave $1.5 million in the recent freewill special contribution to help fund ministries in Mexico and in Middle Eastern, Eurasian, Baltic, and Central American nations.

The brothers and sisters gave a total of about $1.7 million in the annual offering. About $200,000 were earmarked for local projects.

On average, members gave about 10 times what they normally give in their weekly contributions.

The amount given for foreign mission work this year was 15 percent higher than in 2006 and 2005.

Bruce Williams, congregational evangelist, commented:

\It is so inspiring to see our brothers and sisters demonstrate their commitment year after year to making disciples of all nations with their freewill special offerings, as well as their prayers, ministry oversight, shepherding, and member missionary trips. Within the last two years alone, four new churches have been planted in Latin America. We consider it an honor and privilege to do our part in providing support of the spread of God\'s Word around the world.\
