Students from Pacific Palisades Charter High School and Westchester High School raised $276 to purchase socks. Teens from both church regions made 1,000 peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches. On the day of the event, the teens heard a testimony from Robert Jones, Midnight Mission’s public relations volunteer. He shared about his life on the streets as he battled drug abuse. Robert warned the teens not to use drugs or alcohol. After serving the poor that morning, George Perez from “Las Americas” ministry was baptized into Christ!
The Metro Heights Teens launched the “Socks and Sandwiches” program last year as a way to serve the homeless of L.A. County. They also wanted to be civically active in their schools and use the program as way to reach to fellow classmates and club members. In 2007, they gave 2,000 socks and To God be the glory! sandwiches to the homeless of Santa Monica and Long Beach in 2007. The scripture of Jesus feeding the 4,000 has inspired the teens of Metro Heights and they have decided to imitate him and the impact he made. So, this year their goal is to reach 4,000 people.
